Tonight we had a homesteading first. We ate one of our own ducks and I must say it was pretty good. Up until this point we had only used our ducks for eggs and foraging, but we had an extra drake that needed to go. He wasn’t the biggest duck, he was a cross between a Rouen and a call duck but we had enough meat for supper.
I fried up the breasts, thighs and heart in oil with some onions and garlic salt. It was a nice dark meat that reminded me of dark turkey. Even the kiddo ate it all.
This was the result
We are looking forward to eating more in the future 🙂
That looks yummy!! Who butchered the duck 🙂
Uncle Matthew was kind enough to take care of it 🙂
Awesome! Looks good.
That looks delicious! I’ve never had duck before, but we butcher our own chickens. Nothing tastes better than your own home grown food! 🙂
I admit, it looks good on the dinner plate, but, Oh, I just could not do it!
Thanks, it has taken us a few years to be get to this point 🙂
