Thankful for a broken dishwasher

March 19, 2015 By Twin Acres Homestead 2 Comments

I’ve never considered myself the domestic type, but since being off on maternity leave I find myself drawn to the simple domestic tasks that I do everyday.  For example; normally I strongly dislike doing the dishes, this is why we have a dishwasher.  But it is broken right now and Leighton is waiting on a part before he can fix it, so in the meantime we are doing the dishes the old fashioned way.

This morning as I’m going about my morning routine I find myself no longer dreading the pile of supper dishes that need washing.  Instead; I’m enjoying the sound of running water, the morning light coming through the window, the sound of music playing and the laughs coming from my children.

This morning I’m thankful for a broken dishwasher. 🙂

Since we bought our little farm I’ve been doing the dishes by hand. My dishwasher is working but there’s something really peaceful about standing in front of the kitchen window with a view to our North pasture and washing dishes the old fashioned way. My dishwasher is now being used just to sterilize canning jars now.
