It’s another beautiful day. With the melting snow comes the signs of maintenance that needs to be done outside. The duck house or ‘duckatraz’ (as Leighton likes to call it) is our next project.
For the past four years it has sat on the ground, well now that I’ve been able to clean it out I can see that there are some unwanted guests. I’m assuming they are living underneath, nice and warm with access to food, who could resist. I’m not a fan of rats and even less of skunks (there are none living underneath now, but I’m afraid they will come). So we are going to raise it up in cinder blocks. It is recommended to have poultry houses/coops above ground for this exact reason.
This is one corner where they are getting in.
Another job that needs to be done before everything melts is moving the crap pile. During the winter I just fork the old hay/shavings over the fence into a pile. Then during the spring I move it over to the composting pile (which is on the other side of the yard). It is much easier to pull a sled over the snow then it is to push a wheelbarrow through mud and water.
The other task that needs to be done shortly is cutting down all the trees that have fallen during the winter storms.
Mya playing in the snow and sticking her tongue out at me.
What’s on your to do list this spring?
