We’ve been gone for a few days on a family camping trip but are home again now and are getting back into the regular routine.
This week we are visiting my sister Koryn’s garden. Koryn and her husband have a small acreage where they have a lovely garden plot. They have expanded this year to be able to put in more of the vegetables their family enjoys. Koryn can often be found in the garden with her young girls, passing on gardening knowledge.
“This year my husband and I decided to double the size of our garden from previous years. We wanted to see more potatoes and tomatoes along with our other ‘regulars’. The regulars include: beans, zucchini, carrots, peppers, cucumbers and onions. We love new potatoes and while our crop will not last us the winter, it enables us to eat them through the summer/fall season fresh from the garden. The increase in tomatoes is so we can make salsa and sauce. The rest of the veggies are used on a daily basis to eat with enough to freeze and share with family and friends.”
I love that we all plant different things depending on our tastes, where Koryn has had success with her pepper plants we have had nothing but failures. Sharing and trading produce allows us to benefit from her garden as well as our own.
What are your family’s favorite vegetables to grow?
