While it is hard to believe that it is nearing the end of November it is time to get ready for the cold and snow. We have had unusually mild temperatures here, normally we would have seen snow by now. While we wait for the snow I’m busy getting ready for Christmas, trying to make sure that all of our projects are done.
I have gotten behind on winter preparations, but the ducks and chickens are ready for winter.
Some of the gardens are ready for the snow, we’ve added a layer of straw to cover the beds.
The chicks have all grown and are maturing nicely. I love how the chicks have turned out, they have beautiful coloring and are easy keepers. We have a few roosters that will make their way into the freezer soon.
The ducks have put on a nice layer of fat for the winter and look great. We have processed a few of the drakes already and have two more to do.
The meat chickens have gone and we have been enjoying a lot of roast chicken.
How do you prepare for the winter?
