It has been awhile since I have updated our site, I’m sorry for that. The last time I wrote was before Christmas, we had a lovely Christmas break with family. January has proven to be a busy month with working, school and fun winter activities. We have been getting some very warm temperatures here in Ontario and it has been a very mild winter. Just last night we had ice rain and this morning it was a beautiful sight, (although not great to drive in).
Unfortunately yesterday I lost one of my ducks, not sure what got it. This is the first time I have lost a duck to a predator since we set up our new fence. Whatever it was that got in was small enough to fit through the fence, the creature also didn’t eat the entire duck, just her head. It was a grim discovery and now I am down one laying duck.
The chickens have finished their molt and are starting to lay regularly again, we are becoming overrun with eggs. One of the positives about the warmer temperatures is that it is easier to clean out the coop. Usually in the winter I use the deep litter method, but since it has been above freezing regularly, I have been cleaning out the coop every week.
We are busy planning our spring gardens and setting goals for the spring and summer. What have you been busy with?
