Temporary Fencing

March 3, 2019 By Twin Acres Homestead 1 Comment

This winter has given us a lot of snow, not more than usual but enough to make our fencing inadequate for our goats. Life got ahead of me this fall and I didn’t plan for all the snow that would be coming. Our electric fence is now completely buried and of course the goats took the opportunity to escape. We’ve now been busy setting up a freestanding temporary fence using salvaged materials. So far it has been working ok, we have to tweak it every now and again, the goats of course test it regularly. It is definitely not pretty but it’s functional. I’ve noticed that our new Boer buck is quiet the escape artist. He will attempt anything to get out of the pen, leading the rest of the Boers with him. The Nubians on the other hand are quiet content to stay in the pen and munch on hay. Has anyone else noticed a difference between the breeds and their desire to escape? We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring and warmer weather.

We’ve recently moved to Hampshire in South of England and bought a land. We are trying to run a homestead and will definitely use your temporary fencing techniques there. Thanks for sharing
