This winter has given us a lot of snow, not more than usual but enough to make our fencing inadequate for our goats. Life got ahead of me this fall and I didn’t plan for all the snow that would be coming. Our electric fence is now completely buried and of course the goats took the opportunity to escape. We’ve now been busy setting up … [Read more...]
Winter Ice
It has been awhile since I have updated our site, I'm sorry for that. The last time I wrote was before Christmas, we had a lovely Christmas break with family. January has proven to be a busy month with working, school and fun winter activities. We have been getting some very warm temperatures here in Ontario and it has been a very mild winter. … [Read more...]
Our New Normal
Well the time has come, I am back to work and we survived our first few weeks. It helped immensely that Leighton took the first week off to help ease us back into our new routine. This week coming will be the true test of our organization as Leighton heads back to work on day shifts and I am in the classroom. R is back to school as well and is … [Read more...]
Sharing a Garden – Part 4
I like to think that I have saved the best for last, and no, it isn't my garden. My mother's garden has always been large, and even now, when we are all living in our own homes and there is just my mom and step-dad at the house, she still plants enough for all of us. We continue to reap the benefits of our mother's garden. I can remember … [Read more...]
Sharing a Garden – Part 3
We've been gone for a few days on a family camping trip but are home again now and are getting back into the regular routine. This week we are visiting my sister Koryn's garden. Koryn and her husband have a small acreage where they have a lovely garden plot. They have expanded this year to be able to put in more of the vegetables their family … [Read more...]
Sharing a Garden – Part 1
There are many different reasons why people may decide to share a garden. For us and our family it allows for diversity in the vegetables that we have access to, and allows us to share some of the workload. Between my sisters and my mother we have five gardens on the go, all beautiful and unique. Over the next week or so I would like to share … [Read more...]
Hunting for Old Fence
This morning Lori and I went out to our parents place to look for some old fence, specifically barbed wire fencing. There are a lot of old fence lines on the property and the majority have barbed wire somewhere in them. I've had some requests for more dragonfly's and needed some more barbed wire to finish them. Want to make your own barbed … [Read more...]
Garden Picture Update
We finally have warm weather here and the garden has taken off. We are pleased with how well our small vegetable beds are doing. The big garden still has drainage issues that will have to be worked out in the future. There are puddles surrounding the garden and the soil is saturated with water. Thankfully the vegetables are still growing, and … [Read more...]
Garden Update
The garden is slowly coming to life. Yesterday I was able to get into it and get some weeding done. The weeds haven't taken it over yet, but I want to try to stay on top of them so it's not such a big job. I love that our raised beds, the ones that have been established for a few years, rarely have weeds growing in them. The large garden … [Read more...]
Happy Friday
This week has flown by, thankfully I have been able to get some of the garden in today. I've planted some peas, spinach, radish and onions. I planted while A slept in his stroller after our morning walk, he's fighting a virus so he's been sleeping a lot over the past few days. The chicks that hatched … [Read more...]
